This section cuts the ball of the foot and looks down or distally. In this final section of the lower limb, the transverse head of adductor hallucis is present 13), along with the tendons of flexor digitorum longus (10, 15), flexor hallucis longus (17), and flexor digitorum brevis (6, 9, 14, 16). Note the lumbrical muscles associated with the tendons of flexor digitorum longus and also at 6 where the attachment of the muscle to the medial side of the base of the proximal phalanx of the fifth digit can be seen.
