The basal vein (of Rosenthal) arises in the region of the anterior perforate substance. The basal vein drains into the internal cerebral vein in 34% of cases, it drains into the point of union of the two internal cerebral veins in 28%, and it drains into the great cerebral vein in 28%, and openings into the straight sinus were found in 9% of cases.
